52 Weeks of Floor Plans - Week 4!

Welcome!
Every week for the next year, I will be posting an original floor plan and designs that reflect my belief in simple living.  

I've been toying with the idea of buying land and building a small cottage, or starter home, that I can use one day as a studio or guest house.  I've found a few inspirational images from Houzz and Pinterest that really fuel the designs, and I hope you enjoy!  



Week 4!

As my obsession with cottage designs continues, this week I'm inspired more by the beach and water, and thought of a plan that reflected this new inspiration.   Saturday I spent the morning kayaking on a lake with a college friend, and I would love to have a small dwelling along the water.

I would love to stick with natural earth tones, and add pops of blue, like the image below.

Awesome side table I saw at TJ Maxx this past weekend!  Would work well with rounded glass top!


The breakfast nook could house a simple white ornate table, like this one from Ikea.

Last few weeks to Kayak @ Rickett's Glen!

One of my favorite places to visit in the area is Rickett's Glen State Park, and especially the Sunny Side Marina  on Lake Jean where I rent kayaks throughout the summer.   (The family who owns the business is wonderful and always a pleasure to talk to!) Lake Jean has amazing views, and if you are lucky, you will spot the bald eagle flying around the sky as you explore the water.  I was lucky enough last summer to witness the amazing sight - 20 feet in front of me, the eagle flew down and grabbed a fish from the lake and soared back into the sky.  It was beautiful and a day I will never forget.  The lake even has an island that you can park your kayak at and get out and walk around.   Family Outing a few weeks ago - Josh, Mark, Julie, Rita (mom), me, Jim (dad), Laura, Eric, and Mark Jr. Sadly the lake will be drained Spring 2015, and will be closed until Spring 2016.  I highly recommend that you visit this place ASAP and ren...

52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 21!

Week 21! I have a cozy bedroom now, and love its quaint size, so I stemmed this weeks design with the simplicity of the room.  The only change I would make to my current space would be to switch the window wall (I only sleep on my right side, so I would love it if the sunrise would be conveniently positioned to wake me in the morning.  I love this wall color and the retro couch.  And I'm a sucker for orange/ peach roses.   Source A clean color scheme with eclectic accents for the kitchen. Source This deep blue with white trim and light wood are very serene and relaxing (and there is a chevron blanket which makes me like this space even more!)  Source Chevron! 52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 24!

This week, I traveled to the  Christkindl market in Mifflinburg, PA.   I highly recommend taking the trip - great crafts and amazing food! Even some entertainment! The best part was exploring a cute town with historical houses with amazing features.  Beautiful exterior of a local log home.  One of the shops was inside a beautiful old home, which had an amazing fireplace.  It was large enough to walk into the space, and even included doors to keep it concealed when not in use. Motivated me to design a plan with the intention of fireplaces just like these! Inspiration for this week's design - amazing original fireplaces with doors to hide the hearth.  Source Source Source
