52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 24!

This week, I traveled to the Christkindl market in Mifflinburg, PA.
I highly recommend taking the trip - great crafts and amazing food!
Even some entertainment!

The best part was exploring a cute town with historical houses with amazing features.

Beautiful exterior of a local log home.

One of the shops was inside a beautiful old home, which had an amazing fireplace.  It was large enough to walk into the space, and even included doors to keep it concealed when not in use.
Motivated me to design a plan with the intention of fireplaces just like these!

Inspiration for this week's design - amazing original fireplaces with doors to hide the hearth.
Like the mustard color in this room. . . . I love the stairs that went up like this one, though this is a modern version . .

Great walk in fireplace all it needs is a pot of floo powder...

The keeping room ~ A walk-in fireplace with 18thC ironware, exposed ceiling joists, a C1760-68 highback Windsor armchair beside a joined stool, and an early oriental rug on the floor.

52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 21!

Week 21! I have a cozy bedroom now, and love its quaint size, so I stemmed this weeks design with the simplicity of the room.  The only change I would make to my current space would be to switch the window wall (I only sleep on my right side, so I would love it if the sunrise would be conveniently positioned to wake me in the morning.  I love this wall color and the retro couch.  And I'm a sucker for orange/ peach roses.   Source A clean color scheme with eclectic accents for the kitchen. Source This deep blue with white trim and light wood are very serene and relaxing (and there is a chevron blanket which makes me like this space even more!)  Source Chevron! Source I would love a walk in closet, even if a small one.  Source Simple and clean counters, dark cabinetry. Source Walk in shower with glass tile & a simple bench. Source Small but beautiful powder room. Source

52 Weeks of Floor Plans - Week 6!

Week 6! For the last few weeks I've been posting original floor plans inspired by images from Pinterest and Houzz.  This week, my plan is a collaboration of my favorite designs.   This Silo resembling entry really caught my attention, especially with the built in coat hooks and modern lighting fixture.  I especially love the planks of wood covering the walls.  Rustic and modern. Source Quick Rear Exterior Sketch  I always revisit this kitchen, but the modern/rustic look makes this my all time favorite! Source Living  - Great use of the space to add additional sleeping.  Wood beams, neutral tame color scheme. Iron railing.  Source Sleeping - Love the nook design.  The idea of the bed being placed in a space primarily for sleeping inspired me to include a similar space but to include sliding barn doors to create privacy. Source Source A small bathroom would house a walk in shower. ...

52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 18!

I'm starting to think I should have named this blog   "Cooking & Cottages" Especially with Week 18's design.  With all of my recent culinary obsessions, I realized that I should consider creating a design with all of my favorite things... *A plentiful garden to grow most of my food* Source *A chef's kitchen with a gas stove* (gas stoves scare me - hence the reason the stove is on the wall furthest from the bedroom!) Source Source *A renovated barn as the facade & bones of the main living space* (I wrote my thesis on renovated barns, and love them, so I try to incorporate them into my designs whenever possible) Source *A library/ study* (and to display my ceramic collection) Source *A large picture window in the master bedroom to welcome morning light* (with the window facing east so I can wake up to the morning light coming in) Source And this list could go on and on...
