52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 13!

The last few weeks I've been reminiscing about my time in Tuscany. I loved the place I stayed in, and have since been thinking of ways to incorporate it into my designs. The villa was on a hill, with the entrance on the higher end. The bedrooms were on the lower level, with 1 of 2 bathrooms. All rooms had great views. It was small, and quaint, and almost perfect in my eyes. But....if it were up to me, I would open the walls between the upper and lower levels, like I did in my design below. I would also have the great room in the lower level to connect the two floors and make it more inviting.

I'm hoping to venture back overseas soon, hopefully to Ireland and Scotland (ideally before my passport expires in 2016.) Maybe the little cottages there will inspire me as much as Italy!

I'm kind of loving this modern sectional for the great room...

what to do with the lovely kolkata concrete wall?

Concrete walls add a great industrial, yet easily rustic feel with the right accents. I need to just buy land and start building little cottages already.

Last few weeks to Kayak @ Rickett's Glen!

One of my favorite places to visit in the area is Rickett's Glen State Park, and especially the Sunny Side Marina on Lake Jean where I rent kayaks throughout the summer. (The family who owns the business is wonderful and always a pleasure to talk to!) Lake Jean has amazing views, and if you are lucky, you will spot the bald eagle flying around the sky as you explore the water. I was lucky enough last summer to witness the amazing sight - 20 feet in front of me, the eagle flew down and grabbed a fish from the lake and soared back into the sky. It was beautiful and a day I will never forget. The lake even has an island that you can park your kayak at and get out and walk around. 52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 21!

Week 21! I have a cozy bedroom now, and love its quaint size, so I stemmed this weeks design with the simplicity of the room. The only change I would make to my current space would be to switch the window wall (I only sleep on my right side, so I would love it if the sunrise would be conveniently positioned to wake me in the morning. I love this wall color and the retro couch. And I'm a sucker for orange/ peach roses. Source A clean color scheme with eclectic accents for the kitchen. Source This deep blue with white trim and light wood are very serene and relaxing (and there is a chevron blanket which makes me like this space even more!) Source Chevron! 52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 24!

This week, I traveled to the Christkindl market in Mifflinburg, PA. I highly recommend taking the trip - great crafts and amazing food! Even some entertainment! The best part was exploring a cute town with historical houses with amazing features. Beautiful exterior of a local log home. One of the shops was inside a beautiful old home, which had an amazing fireplace. It was large enough to walk into the space, and even included doors to keep it concealed when not in use. Motivated me to design a plan with the intention of fireplaces just like these! Inspiration for this week's design - amazing original fireplaces with doors to hide the hearth. Source Source Source
