52 Weeks of Floor Plans ---Week 22!

I could sketch floor plans all day.  I would be happy with a stack of sketchbooks, pencils, and sharpies.  I could sit outside during a warm summer day in an awesome backyard with a hanging hammock and some lights in the trees.

I could easily get lost in this awesome hanging chair.

Awesome hanging fire pit.

Outdoor space

I love playing ping pong, and want an outdoor table one day for entertainment for summer gatherings.
Ping pong. I hate myself for saying this, but its true.

And now for the floor plan...
This week I opted not to drag out the big PC, and just sketch out the floor plan and use my Chromebook (absolutely love my Chromebook - great size, great prize.)

To me, a simple kitchen is a great space to create.  As a cooking nut, the clean white plates and accessories are perfect for presenting gourmet meals.  I'm thinking a galley style kitchen- long and narrow with lots of windows for natural light to pour in.

Great open space - and the table is amazing!

Cozy romantic bedroom.
Loving the carved wood about the bed! Gorgoue Earthy & Natural Bedroom. Love the Linen drapery around the bed. Love the bedding & the carved wood artwoork on the wall & the wood bed platform. Very Eclectic. Interior Design Inspiration

52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 21!

Week 21! I have a cozy bedroom now, and love its quaint size, so I stemmed this weeks design with the simplicity of the room.  The only change I would make to my current space would be to switch the window wall (I only sleep on my right side, so I would love it if the sunrise would be conveniently positioned to wake me in the morning.  I love this wall color and the retro couch.  And I'm a sucker for orange/ peach roses.   Source A clean color scheme with eclectic accents for the kitchen. Source This deep blue with white trim and light wood are very serene and relaxing (and there is a chevron blanket which makes me like this space even more!)  Source Chevron! Source I would love a walk in closet, even if a small one.  Source Simple and clean counters, dark cabinetry. Source Walk in shower with glass tile & a simple bench. Source Small but beautiful powder room. Source

52 Weeks of Floor Plans --- Week 18!

I'm starting to think I should have named this blog   "Cooking & Cottages" Especially with Week 18's design.  With all of my recent culinary obsessions, I realized that I should consider creating a design with all of my favorite things... *A plentiful garden to grow most of my food* Source *A chef's kitchen with a gas stove* (gas stoves scare me - hence the reason the stove is on the wall furthest from the bedroom!) Source Source *A renovated barn as the facade & bones of the main living space* (I wrote my thesis on renovated barns, and love them, so I try to incorporate them into my designs whenever possible) Source *A library/ study* (and to display my ceramic collection) Source *A large picture window in the master bedroom to welcome morning light* (with the window facing east so I can wake up to the morning light coming in) Source And this list could go on and on...

52 Weeks of Floor Plans - Week 3!

Welcome! Every week for the next year, I will be posting an original floor plan and designs that reflect my belief in simple living.   I've been toying with the idea of buying land and building a small cottage, or starter home, that I can use one day as a studio or guest house.  I've found a few inspirational images from Houzz and Pinterest that really fuel the designs, and I hope you enjoy!   Week 3! When I was in grad school, I had an assignment where I had to create a 120 sq ft dwelling for a client with " the fear of being inside a house."  Easy right?  The best solution - a glass house.  I used Phillip Johnson's Glass House as inspiration. Source The kitchen had to be super small, yet not cut off the space from light. This limited the ability to place cabinets and appliances against the wall, but this little kitchenette provide the best option for flexibility (and a dishwasher!)   Source And another option! ...
